We are excited to add the senior position of Senior Student Engagement Officer (SSEO) to our entrepreneurial and innovative academic team. The SSEO will join a dynamic and entrepreneurially spirited team who designs and runs the only fully online programmes through which students qualify as Chartered Accountants. Our online SAICA-accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) combines the best aspects of supported and guided contact education, together with the flexibility and access of distance education.
This is a blue-sky programme that leads the market in innovation and the objective of this position is to continue to cement this position.

The SSEO will work closely with our team to contribute to providing our students with the best possible online community learning experience while also increasing the student’s chance of success in the programme.

The position requires a leader with relevant technical skills and experience combined with a strong mix of interpersonal skills. They should be a proactive and innovative self-starter in ideating and designing systems that achieve the programme’s key KPIs.

The position is primarily based at the Milpark Education office in Claremont, Cape Town. There is flexibility for performing work remotely.

Working Hours

General working hours are weekdays from 08h00 to 17h00.

More important than working hours is that the SSEO is available to students and academics so that they are equipped to engage the programme and perform their roles.

The programmes of the Department of Professional Accounting have a substantial number of after-hours and day time students. Working hours therefore need to accommodate all students’ needs. Work is cyclical and there are quieter and busier periods. There needs to be flexibility according to requirements at different times of the year and after-hours and weekend work may be required.

Preference will be given to applicants from designated groups, and appointments will be made in line with our EE requirements

The SSEO Objective & Responsibilities

The SSEO will lead our academic team in understanding our students’ needs and the data behind their behaviour, to provide appropriate responses that increase engagement.

The SSEO will work directly with students and closely within the academic team to assess and design appropriate mechanisms for proactive and reactive support. This includes:

•Working with the academic team to synthesise academic and psychosocial support.
•Analysing the student data from the learning platform and interrogating what additional information should be acquired;
•Managing the live data and reporting to the team to enable a sense of how students are behaving, and what could be done to improve the learning community.
•Actively interpreting live data coming off the dashboard and responding appropriately– both retrospectively and proactively;
•Identifying at risk students and designing mechanisms for assistance;
•Connecting academics with at risk students;
•Identifying risk areas in learning material with which students are not engaging, critically analysing this and assisting in ideas for redesign;
•Engaging with academics to improve learning design that results in increased student engagement;
•Designing, implementing and facilitating systems and initiatives that support a strong online community;
•Managing the student mentorship programme to maximise its value;
•Managing the alumni network to maintain strong relationships.
Selection Criteria: Education & Experience
•Experience in:
oOnline education.
oLeading growing teams.
oCoaching students.
•A qualification in organisational psychology, data analytics, learning design, or an equivalent qualification that meets the needs of the role.
•Experience designing and implementing new systems in a growing business.
•An ability to manage data and perform detailed analysis on a Moodle learning platform.
•Practical skills in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
•An entrepreneurial and innovative spirit.
•Mature emotional intelligence with an aptitude and desire to build relationships though compassion and genuine care.
•An industrious, innovative and gregarious attitude with the ability to learn, solve problems and complete tasks without close supervision.
•Strong ability to collaborate in a team with excellent communication skills.
